Books Open Doors:
There are several ways to construct a book. Establishing the main point you want a reader to walk away knowing is the first step. Finding the Takeaway is asking yourself when the reader puts the book down, what will they say they learned or were inspired to do. Even though it is the story of your life or the truths you discovered with Jesus, the reader often needs to feel satisfied when the story is over. Therefore, no matter the genre you chose to tell your story, a book used for ministry will likely be centered on What Jesus Did for Me. And the takeaway will be What Jesus Will Do for You.
Generally for ministry work, your book will revolve around your testimony and the lesson you learned, so the reader can grow in their faith. The way you organize the book can deliver a true story or a story based on true events. Your book can be a factual telling of events, which is Nonfiction story telling. For a self-help book, the chapters will contain steps or lessons you want to teach. For an autobiography or testimony story you can state dates, times, and events to show your journey. If you endeavor to put many testimonies of multiple people in a book, each person would be a chapter, but they all would focus on the same message or theme. Fiction story telling can be a story inspired by real life events, but the story reads fiction where the main character takes on your attributes and delivers the takeaway. This person or animal, acting like a human, walks through your real-life adventures like a graphic novel, mystery, romance, etc. In this fashion, you are taking your fiction character through a process while revealing the takeaway you want the reader to learn. You can even write a hard cover children’s book slowing the read to focus mostly on the takeaway.
Often times, if you can take a moment to evaluate your life story, you can see it can be used in many forums. When you can visualize your story in many facets or forms, your reach can grow to many different types of people. Being able to write to these different demographics takes skill but it can grow your Brand. People follow your material because they like the way you sound or the messages you deliver. To be successful each book, especially your first book, needs to fit a specific need with a specific type of reader.
The story carries the real life learning lesson but speaks like a novel with characters who are given personalities and desires. The story reaches a powerful ending delivering an overall feeling and life lesson about Jesus. Chapter books all ages: novels, graphic novels, romance, mystery, sci-fi, etc.
This book is a theological thought or lesson delivered from the author's research or life experience. Each chapter will communicate deeper understanding or a new viewpoint. Self-help books, historical, Bible studies, or step-by-step guides fit in this group.
This book is a retelling of a true life event or a whole life lived. The overall book can feel like an autobiography as the author shares life experiences or stories. The main goal however is to bring a message to the reader. The reader wants to connect to the author and find out how Jesus corrected their situation or problem.
